ASTRAY RED FRAME KAI
Complete Build · Tactical Arms · Shaded Paint · Weathering

The MG Astray Red Frame Kai was my second Astray project after the Blue Frame Second Revise. I wanted the two finished models to look coherent together, using deeper colors, carefully controlled shading and weathering rather than radically changing the kit design.
The finished model
The mobile suit is comparatively straightforward, but the huge Tactical Arms changes its silhouette and balance. With this equipment on the back, the model becomes rear-heavy; using the supplied display stand is the sensible approach. I painted that stand black for the final photographs.

Four steps in this build
01. Assembly and dry fit: runner organization, four-day test assembly and checking the Tactical Arms transformations.
02. Tactical Arms and weapons: shaded deep-red color on the large equipment, copper and gold accents, and simpler solid painting on the plated blades.
03. Body painting: dark red shading on the frame, white armor, gray accents, panel lining and markings.
04. Weathering: selective chipping and dark shadow work to add a used, battle-worn character.
A build record, including what didn’t work
Some colored frame accents were less visible than expected, and working with the detailed red inner frame was more difficult than painting larger white armor panels. This is exactly the sort of practical observation I want to preserve in the English version.
The calendar duration was 27 days, including breaks and time spent on other projects. It should not be read as 27 full working days.
Red Frame and Blue Frame together
After completing Red Frame Kai, I photographed it alongside my earlier Blue Frame Second Revise. The two share family features but have their own silhouette, weapons and different color approaches.
